Working on another pastel project… just getting my feet wet while practicing. I’m also doing a woodburning of this same hummingbird, but thought I’d try it on paper with pastels this time. It’s a work-in-progress. I’m still undecided about whether I like working in pastels or not. We’ll see if it ‘takes’ as a new art form for me. One thing I like about working on paper versus wood is that the finished product is easier to ship and can be framed to the customer’s preference, rather than the bare woodburning being displayed. So, there are pros and cons, for sure. Also, no smoke or fumes are produced in the creation of the pastel piece, and there is no hot tool to worry about. But I like the pyrography process…and it doesn’t produce the chalk dust or smear of pastels, so we’ll see. I don’t think working in pastels would ever _replace_ my pyrography art. But it might be a fun option/alternative.
