smHalloween Candy 2Americans Expected To Celebrate Halloween This Year Like Never Before!

Halloween candy sales are expected to sky-rocket this year! According to this article in CStoreDecisions the trend is definitely way UP! Anticipated spending is expected to hit $10.14 billion — an all-time high. And while I don’t get super excited about the fact that American children will be consuming that much refined sugar…still, I’m happy to learn that attitudes and outlooks seem to be improving. At least, if Halloween candy sales are any indicator.

The article goes on to share some fun facts about the upcoming 2021 Halloween season. These numbers are sourced from the NRF – National Retail Federation. Apparently, of those surveyed:

  • 82% of people — and 93% of young parents — plan to celebrate Halloween this year.
  • 80% of Americans plan to trick-or-treat in 2021.
  • 82% of people are confident they will find safe and creative ways to celebrate the Halloween season.
  • 79% of Americans say they plan to fill a Halloween candy bowl this season.

And participation looks to be comparable with the numbers in 2019…an estimated 65% of Americans intend to celebrate. So, that’s encouraging.

As much as I’d love to see Americans eating more healthily, it’s nice to see our nation returning to some semblance of normalcy. Even if it is just parents feeling safe enough to allow their children to go trick-or-treating for Halloween candy.

Will Your Kids Be Trick-Or-Treating This Year?

Halloween is a national holiday. Most of us looked forward to dressing up and going door-to-door when we were kids. It was a childhood right-of-passage to compete with our friends for who could get the most and best Halloween candy stash. Chocolate was king, of course! So Hershey’s minis rocked our world! But if you discovered a house where they were handing out full-sized bars? That was something to really brag about!

Our kids are all grown and have kids of their own now. And I’m pretty darn sure most of them will be enthusiastically participating in the annual Halloween tradition this year. As for me? I’m very happy to see neighbors being…neighborly! Will there be a bowlful of candy to hand out to the little munchkins ringing our bell this year? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT! (Just as there was last year. wink-wink!)
