I thought it would be a quick, hopeful tale about recovery. But somewhere between the first chapter and today, the characters had other plans.

The story begins in a hospital room with fifteen-year-old Nathaniel Gray. He is a boy who’s been fighting cancer for far too long—bitter, exhausted, and ready to give up. Enter Faith Portner, a girl descended from an ancient angelic bloodline. Her only intention is to offer comfort during a youth group visit — but one touch changes everything.
Nathaniel is healed. Completely. Magically.
But this isn’t the end of his troubles — it’s the spark that lights a far more dangerous fire.
A Glimpse into the Dark Fantasy World
One of my favorite moments is a dream-scene between Nathaniel and Ethan, a mysterious figure with glowing eyes, and a history far darker than Nathaniel realizes. Ethan isn’t just there to offer advice — he’s there to lure Nathaniel toward embracing the powers now simmering beneath his skin.
Here’s a taste of that exchange:
“You’ve noticed it,” Ethan said. “The strength. The senses. The clarity. It’s not a curse. It’s the gods reminding you what you are — what you were always meant to be. The sooner you stop fearing it, the sooner you can decide what to do with it… before someone else decides for you.”

For readers of the Jack Mac Paidin series, this novella serves as a prequel for Faith Portner. While she first appeared in The Magical Legacy (Book Three), Angel Touched explores her earliest timeline and the magical healing that sets a dangerous awakening into motion.
Why I’m Loving This Novella
One of the joys of writing Angel Touched is how much the characters surprise me. Nathaniel, in particular, is evolving from a boy resigned to his death into someone beginning to sense his own power — and wondering how far he can push it.
And Ethan… well, he’s the kind of character who walks onto the page fully formed and steals every scene he’s in. His words carry the kind of dangerous allure that tempts both characters and readers alike.
